Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated English Teacher to join our dynamic Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality English language instruction to students across various levels, from foundational to advanced. This role involves planning and executing engaging lessons, assessing student progress, and contributing to the development of our English language curriculum. You will foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment, encouraging students to develop their language skills and confidence.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging English language lessons to diverse student groups.
- Develop and implement effective teaching strategies tailored to student needs and learning styles.
- Assess student progress through continuous evaluation, assignments, and examinations, providing constructive feedback.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and grades.
- Contribute to the ongoing development and review of English language curriculum materials.
- Participate in departmental meetings, professional development activities, and college events.
- Provide pastoral care and academic support to students, fostering a positive learning environment.
- Utilise various teaching aids and technology to enhance the learning experience.
- Adhere to college policies and procedures, including those related to safeguarding and equality.
Required Skills
- Excellent command of the English language (native or near-native proficiency).
- Proven ability to plan and deliver engaging and effective lessons.
- Strong classroom management skills.
- Ability to assess student work accurately and provide constructive feedback.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency in using educational technology and digital resources.
- A bachelor’s degree in English, Education, Linguistics, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS).
- CELTA, DELTA, or equivalent ESL teaching certification.
- Master's degree in a relevant subject.
- Experience teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) or English for Academic Purposes (EAP) in a college or university setting.
- Familiarity with Scottish educational frameworks.
