Job Description

We are seeking a proactive and passionate Community Development Officer to join our team, focusing on local council projects. This role involves working closely with diverse community groups, local businesses, and government stakeholders to identify needs, develop strategies, and implement projects that enhance community infrastructure, social cohesion, and economic development within the Lismore region. You will be instrumental in translating community aspirations into actionable plans, securing resources, and ensuring the successful delivery of key council initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with community groups, residents, and stakeholders to identify needs and opportunities for community development.
  • Plan, develop, and implement community projects in alignment with Council's strategic goals and community plans.
  • Facilitate workshops, meetings, and forums to encourage community participation and input.
  • Prepare detailed project proposals, grant applications, and reports.
  • Monitor project progress, manage budgets, and evaluate outcomes to ensure effectiveness and accountability.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external agencies to ensure integrated service delivery.
  • Promote Council initiatives and services to the community.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of community development best practices and relevant legislation.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in community engagement and project management.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse community groups and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in written communication for reports, proposals, and grant applications.
  • Sound understanding of community development principles and practices.
  • Valid Australian Driver's License.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Community Development, Social Sciences, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • Experience working within a local government environment.
  • Knowledge of the Lismore region's demographics, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Experience in grant writing and fundraising.
