Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Clinical Pharmacist to join our dynamic pharmacy team at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth. This is an exceptional opportunity for an overseas candidate, as we offer Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) and comprehensive visa support to help you relocate and build your career in the UK. You will play a crucial role in providing high-quality pharmaceutical care, optimising medication use, and contributing to patient safety across various clinical specialities. The role requires a strong commitment to patient-centred care, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert pharmaceutical advice and support to medical, nursing, and other healthcare professionals.
- Undertake clinical ward rounds, medicines reconciliation, and patient counselling.
- Review medication regimens for efficacy, safety, and adherence to hospital guidelines.
- Identify, resolve, and prevent drug-related problems.
- Participate in the development and implementation of prescribing guidelines and protocols.
- Contribute to audit and quality improvement initiatives within the pharmacy department and across the Trust.
- Supervise and mentor junior pharmacists, pre-registration pharmacists, and pharmacy technicians.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant professional, ethical, and legal standards.
- Engage in continuous professional development to maintain and enhance clinical skills.
Required Skills
- Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) or eligible for GPhC registration (e.g., OSPAP pathway completed or in progress).
- Minimum 3 years post-registration experience in a clinical hospital setting.
- Excellent knowledge of pharmacy practice, clinical pharmacology, and therapeutics.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proven commitment to patient safety and evidence-based practice.
- Eligibility to work in the UK (with CoS and visa support provided where necessary).
Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent advanced clinical qualification.
- Experience in specialist areas such as cardiology, respiratory, critical care, or elderly care.
- Demonstrable experience in medicines reconciliation and patient counselling.
- Experience in supervising or mentoring junior staff.
