Job Description

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Hillcrest is offering an incredible opportunity for aspiring professionals to join our team as a Child Life Specialist Intern in our Pediatric Hospital. This entry-level internship is designed to provide comprehensive, hands-on training for individuals with little to no prior professional experience in child life. You will work under the direct supervision of certified Child Life Specialists, gaining invaluable experience in supporting pediatric patients and their families through play, education, and emotional support. This internship is perfect for students or recent graduates eager to begin their career journey in a supportive and dynamic hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Certified Child Life Specialists in implementing therapeutic play and activities for pediatric patients.
  • Help prepare children for medical procedures and provide coping strategies through age-appropriate education.
  • Engage with patients and families to foster a positive and supportive hospital environment.
  • Document patient interactions and observations as guided by supervising specialists.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and engaging play environment in the pediatric unit.
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
  • Adhere to hospital policies and procedures, including patient confidentiality and safety protocols.

Required Skills

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Child Life, Child Development, Psychology, Education, or a related field.
  • Strong passion for working with children and families in a healthcare setting.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and empathy skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for learning and a proactive attitude.
  • Comfortable working with diverse populations and in emotionally sensitive situations.
  • No prior professional experience in Child Life required; full training will be provided.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous volunteer experience with children in a hospital, school, or community setting.
  • Basic knowledge of child development theories and principles.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
