Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Anesthetist to join our multidisciplinary team at Morriston Hospital, a major acute hospital within Swansea Bay University Health Board. The successful candidate will provide expert anesthetic services across a wide range of surgical specialities, critical care, and pain management. This role demands clinical excellence, a commitment to patient safety, and a collaborative approach to healthcare delivery. You will contribute to the teaching and training of junior medical staff and participate in audit and quality improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide safe and effective anesthetic care for patients undergoing various surgical procedures, including general, regional, and local anesthesia.
- Conduct pre-operative assessments and develop individualized anesthetic plans.
- Manage post-operative pain and provide immediate post-operative care.
- Participate in on-call rotas for emergency anesthesia and critical care.
- Contribute to the management of critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit.
- Supervise and educate junior medical staff, including trainees and medical students.
- Engage in continuous professional development, clinical audit, and research activities.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records in accordance with professional and organisational guidelines.
- Collaborate effectively with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Adhere to all relevant clinical governance, patient safety, and regulatory standards.
Required Skills
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a licence to practise.
- CCT in Anaesthetics (or equivalent specialist registration).
- Demonstrable experience in providing a broad range of anesthetic techniques.
- Advanced life support certification (e.g., ALS).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and make sound clinical decisions.
- Commitment to patient safety and evidence-based practice.
Preferred Qualifications
- Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FRCA).
- Experience in a sub-speciality such as cardiac, neuro, paediatric, or obstetric anesthesia.
- Experience in teaching and supervision of junior medical staff.
- Participation in clinical audit or research projects.
- Leadership experience within a clinical setting.
