Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled A&E Nurse to join our busy and challenging Emergency Department at University Hospital in Coventry. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic team, providing immediate and expert care to patients presenting with a wide range of acute illnesses and injuries. The successful candidate will be a registered nurse with a passion for emergency medicine, possessing excellent clinical skills, critical thinking abilities, and a commitment to continuous professional development. You will be instrumental in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for patients, ensuring they receive timely and effective treatment in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including triage, vital sign monitoring, and identification of acute medical and trauma emergencies.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans based on patient needs and clinical guidelines.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring accuracy and adherence to Trust policies.
  • Monitor patient progress, documenting all observations, interventions, and outcomes accurately and efficiently.
  • Provide clear and concise communication with patients, their families, and multidisciplinary team members regarding diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing care.
  • Assist with minor procedures, wound care, and other emergency department interventions.
  • Ensure a safe and clean environment for patients and staff, adhering to infection control policies.
  • Participate in emergency response and resuscitation efforts when required.
  • Act as a mentor and role model for junior staff and students.
  • Maintain professional development and keep up-to-date with current best practices in emergency nursing.

Required Skills

  • Valid NMC Registration (Registered General Nurse)
  • Minimum of 2 years post-registration experience, preferably within an acute hospital setting.
  • Excellent clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Proficiency in basic life support (BLS).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care and professional development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Emergency Nursing Course (e.g., ENB 199 or equivalent).
  • Immediate Life Support (ILS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification.
  • Previous experience working in an Accident & Emergency Department.
  • Mentorship qualification or experience.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development in emergency care.
