Job Description

Join Artem Ltd. as a Special Effects (SFX) Workshop Assistant, where you will play a crucial role in the fabrication and preparation of props, models, set pieces, and various special effects elements. This is a hands-on position ideal for individuals with a passion for practical effects, an eagerness to learn new techniques, and a strong aptitude for creative problem-solving. You will work closely with experienced SFX technicians and artists, contributing to diverse projects from initial concept to on-set delivery. Full training will be provided, making this an excellent opportunity for aspiring SFX professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the fabrication, construction, and finishing of SFX props, models, and set elements.
  • Prepare materials, tools, and work areas for various production tasks.
  • Learn and apply techniques in sculpting, moulding, casting, painting, and general workshop practices.
  • Support on-set installations and derigging of special effects equipment when required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
  • Undertake general workshop duties as directed by the workshop supervisor or lead technicians.
  • Assist with inventory management and procurement of materials.

Required Skills

  • Strong manual dexterity and practical aptitude.
  • Basic understanding of workshop safety procedures.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively in a team.
  • Enthusiasm for special effects, creative arts, or fabrication.
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to learn diverse skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a workshop, art studio, or practical construction environment (even as a hobby).
  • Familiarity with various hand and power tools.
  • Basic knowledge of materials such as timber, metals, plastics, resins, or foam.
  • Art, design, or technical qualification (e.g., BTEC, NVQ, A-Levels, or equivalent).
