Job Description

Join the City of Darwin Council as a Building Compliance Support officer and play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and integrity of buildings across our community. This position involves providing administrative and technical support to our Building Compliance team, assisting with the assessment of building applications, managing documentation, and responding to community inquiries. You will contribute to the efficient operation of our regulatory services, upholding high standards of building control and compliance within local government frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to Building Certifiers and Compliance Officers.
  • Assist with the processing of building applications, permits, and inspection requests.
  • Maintain accurate records and databases related to building compliance activities.
  • Respond to inquiries from the public, builders, and developers regarding building regulations and processes.
  • Prepare correspondence, reports, and other documentation as required.
  • Conduct preliminary reviews of documentation for completeness and adherence to basic requirements.
  • Assist in the coordination of building inspections and follow-up actions.

Required Skills

  • Strong administrative and organisational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to interpret and apply basic regulatory information.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Customer service orientation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a local government or regulatory environment.
  • Understanding of building codes, regulations, or planning schemes (e.g., NT Building Act).
  • Experience with document management systems.
  • Relevant Certificate III or IV in Business Administration or a related field.
