Job Description

The Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control is seeking dedicated and reliable individuals to join our team as a Wildlife Rescue Center Laborer. This vital role involves heavy cleaning and maintenance tasks crucial for the health and well-being of the animals in our care. Key Responsibilities
- Perform thorough and consistent cleaning and sanitization of wildlife enclosures, rehabilitation areas, and shared spaces.
- Handle and dispose of animal waste, soiled bedding, and other refuse following strict biohazard protocols.
- Operate and maintain cleaning equipment, ensuring proper use and storage.
- Wash, dry, and fold laundry, including animal bedding and towels.
- Assist with general facility maintenance, including sweeping, mopping, and organizing supplies.
- Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and report needs to supervisors.
- Follow all safety guidelines and protocols to maintain a clean and safe environment for animals, staff, and visitors.
- Provide basic assistance to animal care staff as needed, such as preparing food dishes (not direct feeding or or handling unless trained and supervised).
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods.
- Strong work ethic and reliability, with a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
- Willingness to learn and adhere to strict cleaning and safety protocols.
- Comfortable working with and around various types of wildlife (under supervision and without direct contact unless trained).
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated compassion and respect for animals.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Previous experience in a custodial, labor, or animal care role (volunteer or paid) is a plus but not required.
- Basic understanding of animal welfare principles.
