Job Description
As a Transport Manager at DHL Supply Chain in Maidenhead, you will be instrumental in overseeing and optimizing our transport operations. This role involves managing a fleet of vehicles, a team of drivers, and ensuring the efficient, safe, and compliant delivery of goods. You will be responsible for strategic planning, operational execution, and continuous improvement across all transport activities, playing a vital part in our commitment to service excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and lead a team of transport supervisors and drivers, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee the day-to-day transport operations, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of goods.
- Develop and implement transport strategies, policies, and procedures to enhance operational performance and compliance.
- Ensure all transport activities adhere to legal regulations, including driver hours, vehicle maintenance, and health & safety standards.
- Optimize route planning and resource allocation to maximize efficiency and minimize operational costs.
- Manage fleet maintenance schedules and vehicle compliance to ensure roadworthiness and operational readiness.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to transport operations, identifying areas for improvement.
- Liaise with customers, suppliers, and internal departments to ensure smooth coordination and high levels of service.
- Implement and manage transport management systems (TMS) and other relevant technologies.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies for transport-related hazards.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in transport operations management.
- Strong understanding of UK transport legislation and compliance (e.g., WTD, tachographs, O-Licence).
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Proficiency in transport planning and route optimization software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- National or International CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) qualification.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Experience with lean methodologies or continuous improvement initiatives.
- Knowledge of dangerous goods regulations (ADR).
