Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and scientifically rigorous Entomologist / Pest Control Scientist to join our dynamic team in Newcastle upon Tyne. This role is pivotal in enhancing our pest management strategies through in-depth entomological analysis, research, and expert consultation. You will be responsible for identifying pest species, understanding their biology and behaviour, and developing innovative, sustainable control methods. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed entomological surveys and inspections to identify pest species and assess infestations.
- Perform laboratory analysis of insect samples and conduct research into pest biology, ecology, and behaviour.
- Develop and implement integrated pest management (IPM) strategies tailored to specific client needs and environmental contexts.
- Provide expert scientific advice and training to field technicians, clients, and internal stakeholders.
- Stay abreast of the latest entomological research, pest control technologies, and relevant legislation.
- Prepare comprehensive reports and present findings to clients and management.
- Contribute to the development of new pest control products and services.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations in all activities.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Entomology, Biology, Zoology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Demonstrable experience (2+ years) in entomology, pest identification, or pest control research.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficiency in scientific data collection and interpretation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Valid UK driving licence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or PhD in Entomology or a closely related discipline.
- Experience with integrated pest management (IPM) principles and practices.
- Familiarity with UK pest species and relevant regulations.
- Professional certifications in pest management (e.g., BPCA, RSPH).
- Experience working in a field-based scientific role.
