Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and driven Community Organizer to join our team in Townsville. This role is crucial for engaging local residents, building strong community alliances, and mobilizing support for our campaigns focused on critical social and environmental issues. The Community Organizer will be responsible for developing and executing community engagement strategies, recruiting and training volunteers, and facilitating action-oriented events. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive community organizing strategies in the Townsville region.
  • Recruit, train, and support a diverse base of community volunteers and activists.
  • Organize and facilitate community meetings, workshops, and public forums.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local community leaders, organizations, and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate grassroots advocacy campaigns, including petition drives, letter-writing campaigns, and public demonstrations.
  • Monitor and report on campaign progress, ensuring activities align with organizational goals.
  • Educate community members on key issues and empower them to take action.
  • Represent the Progressive Australia Network at public events and in local media when appropriate.

Required Skills

  • Proven ability to engage and mobilize diverse community groups.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated passion for social justice, environmental protection, or related advocacy causes.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Proficiency in basic office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite or Google Workspace).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Political Science, Communications, or a related field.
  • Experience with database management or CRM systems for tracking engagement.
  • Familiarity with the political and social landscape of Queensland.
  • Experience in public speaking or facilitating group discussions.
