Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Remote Sensing Technician with a strong interest in spatial data to join our Penrith team. In this role, you will be instrumental in the acquisition, processing, and analysis of remote sensing data to support a wide range of environmental, engineering, and infrastructure projects. You will work with cutting-edge technology and contribute to critical decision-making processes, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our spatial datasets. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain remote sensing equipment, including drones and other sensors, for data acquisition.
  • Process and analyse various types of remote sensing data (e.g., LiDAR, photogrammetry, satellite imagery).
  • Perform quality control checks on spatial datasets to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Prepare maps, charts, and reports using GIS software to visualise and communicate findings.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and environmental scientists to understand project requirements and deliver tailored spatial solutions.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of data processing workflows and methodologies.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in remote sensing technology and spatial data analysis techniques.
  • Contribute to the development of new methodologies and workflows for spatial data management.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, QGIS).
  • Understanding of remote sensing principles and data types (e.g., LiDAR, optical imagery).
  • Experience with spatial data processing and analysis.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data handling.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications and maps.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to challenges.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Geographic Information Systems, Surveying, Geomatics, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with drone operation and data capture.
  • Familiarity with photogrammetry software (e.g., Pix4D, Agisoft Metashape).
  • Basic scripting skills (e.g., Python) for GIS automation.
