Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Network Cabling Specialist with a strong focus on fibre optic and data cabling to join our team in Newcastle upon Tyne. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional who thrives on deploying and maintaining critical network infrastructure. You will be responsible for the installation, termination, testing, and troubleshooting of various network cables, with a particular emphasis on fibre optic and structured data cabling systems. Key Responsibilities
- Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot fibre optic cables (e.g., fusion splicing, mechanical termination, OTDR testing).
- Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot structured data cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a) in various environments.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Perform site surveys to assess cabling requirements and plan installations.
- Ensure all cabling installations comply with industry standards (e.g., TIA/EIA) and safety regulations.
- Document network infrastructure and cabling routes accurately.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other technicians to ensure seamless project delivery.
- Identify and resolve cabling issues efficiently to minimize downtime.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicles in good working order.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in installing and terminating fibre optic cabling.
- Demonstrable experience with structured data cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a).
- Proficiency in using cabling tools and testing equipment (e.g., OTDR, cable certifiers).
- Strong understanding of network infrastructure and cabling standards.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Valid UK driving license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant industry certifications (e.g., FOA CFOT, BICSI RCDD, CNET CNCI).
- Experience with fusion splicing equipment.
- Knowledge of IP networking fundamentals.
- Experience working in telecommunications or data centre environments.
