Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our Environmental Sciences department, focusing on ‘Climate Change Impacts on Agricultural Ecosystems’. This critical project aims to investigate the long-term effects of climate variability on crop resilience, soil health, and biodiversity within agricultural landscapes, with a specific focus on the UK’s West Midlands region. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in designing and executing field and laboratory experiments, analysing complex datasets, and contributing to high-impact publications. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research, develop a strong independent research profile, and collaborate with leading experts in climate science, agronomy, and ecology. Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement robust experimental protocols for field-based and controlled environment studies.
- Collect, process, and analyse environmental, biological, and agricultural data using advanced statistical methods.
- Contribute to the drafting and submission of high-quality research papers for peer-reviewed journals.
- Present research findings at national and international conferences and seminars.
- Assist in the preparation of grant applications and funding proposals.
- Mentor junior researchers, PhD students, and undergraduate project students.
- Maintain accurate records of all research activities and ensure compliance with ethical guidelines and safety regulations.
- Actively participate in departmental meetings, seminars, and collaborative research initiatives.
Required Skills
- PhD in Environmental Science, Agronomy, Ecology, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrable experience in designing and conducting field and/or laboratory experiments.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis software (e.g., R, SAS, Python) and data visualization.
- Strong track record of scientific publication in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative research team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with climate modeling or remote sensing techniques.
- Prior experience in grant writing or project management.
- Demonstrated experience in supervising or mentoring students.
- Familiarity with agricultural practices and sustainability challenges in the UK.
- A valid UK driving license (desirable for field work).
