Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Data Engineer to join our growing data team in Leeds. This is an exceptional opportunity for a talented professional with a strong background in Python and SQL to design, develop, and maintain robust and scalable data pipelines and architectures. You will play a crucial role in transforming raw data into actionable insights, supporting critical business decisions across the organisation. The ideal candidate will have expertise in cloud-based data solutions (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and a passion for working with large datasets. Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable and efficient ETL/ELT pipelines using Python and SQL.
- Build and optimize data models, data warehouses, and data lakes to support reporting, analytics, and machine learning initiatives.
- Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and product teams to understand data requirements and deliver appropriate solutions.
- Implement data quality checks, monitoring, and alerting to ensure data integrity and reliability.
- Contribute to the selection and implementation of new data technologies and tools.
- Mentor junior data engineers and champion best practices in data engineering.
- Ensure compliance with data governance, security, and privacy standards.
Required Skills
- Expert proficiency in Python for data manipulation and scripting.
- Advanced SQL skills with experience in complex query writing and database optimisation.
- Extensive experience with cloud data platforms (e.g., AWS Redshift, S3, Glue; GCP BigQuery, Dataflow; Azure Data Factory, Synapse).
- Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, and ETL/ELT methodologies.
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Familiarity with data governance and data security principles.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
- Experience with big data technologies such as Apache Spark, Kafka, or Flink.
- Knowledge of CI/CD practices for data pipelines.
- Experience with containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Familiarity with software engineering best practices, including testing and code reviews.
- Prior experience in the gaming, sports, or entertainment industry.
