Job Description

Are you a budding journalist with a passion for uncovering the truth? Stuff Ltd. is offering an exciting opportunity for a Journalism Investigative Reporting Intern to join our dynamic newsroom in Hamilton. This internship is designed for individuals eager to gain hands-on experience in the challenging yet rewarding field of investigative journalism. You will work alongside experienced reporters, contributing to in-depth research, interviewing, and storytelling that holds power to account and serves the public interest. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough research using various sources, including public records, databases, and interviews.
  • Assist senior investigative journalists in identifying potential stories and developing investigative leads.
  • Participate in interviews with sources, ensuring accuracy and ethical considerations.
  • Fact-check information and verify sources to maintain journalistic integrity.
  • Draft reports, articles, and summaries of findings under supervision.
  • Collaborate with the newsroom team on ongoing investigative projects.
  • Learn about media law, journalistic ethics, and best practices in investigative reporting.
  • Support the wider newsroom with ad-hoc research and reporting tasks as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, or a related field.
  • Experience with digital research tools and databases.
  • A portfolio of published or unpublished journalistic work (e.g., student newspaper articles, blog posts, academic papers).
  • Familiarity with local issues and current events in the Waikato region.
