Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Delivery Suite Midwife to join our dedicated team at St Mary’s Hospital in Westminster. This vital role involves providing expert midwifery care to women and their families during labour, birth, and immediate postnatal period within our busy delivery suite. You will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all. This position offers an excellent opportunity to enhance your skills within a leading NHS teaching hospital, working alongside a multidisciplinary team to deliver outstanding maternity services.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide holistic, evidence-based midwifery care to women and their families during all stages of labour and birth.
- Perform comprehensive assessments, monitor progress, and identify potential complications promptly.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring patient safety and accurate documentation.
- Support women in making informed choices about their birth experience, advocating for their preferences.
- Collaborate effectively with obstetricians, anaesthetists, neonatologists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Respond to obstetric emergencies with calm competence, participating in emergency drills and debriefs.
- Provide immediate postnatal care, including breastfeeding support and newborn assessment.
- Maintain accurate and contemporaneous patient records in line with NMC guidelines and Trust policies.
- Act as a role model and mentor to junior staff, student midwives, and new team members.
- Participate in clinical audits, service improvement initiatives, and continuing professional development.
Required Skills
- Registered Midwife (NMC pin)
- Minimum of 2 years post-registration experience in a delivery suite or labour ward setting.
- Proven ability to manage a caseload in a busy clinical environment.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and empathy skills.
- Strong clinical decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
- Up-to-date knowledge of current midwifery practices, guidelines, and legislation.
- Proficiency in CTG interpretation and management of obstetric emergencies.
- Commitment to providing high-quality, woman-centred care.
Preferred Qualifications
- ENB 997/998 or equivalent teaching/mentorship qualification.
- Experience with complex obstetric cases or high-risk pregnancies.
- Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) or equivalent certification.
- Fluency in additional languages relevant to the local community.
