Job Description
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Government Surplus Auction Assistant to join our Manchester team. This is an active, hands-on role vital to the smooth operation of our auction processes. You will be instrumental in preparing, managing, and facilitating the sale of diverse government surplus items, ensuring they are ready for public viewing and auction.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the receiving, sorting, and systematic cataloging of government surplus items.
- Conduct thorough basic inventory checks and perform accurate data entry for all auction lots.
- Prepare items meticulously for display, which includes cleaning, strategic staging, and assisting with professional photography.
- Actively participate in the physical setup and efficient tear-down of auction events, ensuring all equipment and items are handled with care.
- Safely operate warehouse equipment such as pallet jacks, with potential for forklift operation if certified (training can be provided).
- Provide essential support to auctioneers and administrative staff throughout live and online auctions, helping to ensure a seamless experience.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety protocols and operational procedures to maintain a secure working environment.
- Liaise effectively with clients and buyers as needed, offering information and support to ensure satisfaction.
Required Skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Physical capability to perform demanding tasks, including the ability to lift and move items weighing up to 25kg comfortably.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite and data entry systems.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in all tasks.
- A valid UK driving license is essential for this role.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, fostering a collaborative and productive team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience gained in a warehouse, logistics, or auction house setting would be highly advantageous.
- Current forklift certification is desirable, though comprehensive training can be provided for the right candidate.
- A foundational understanding of government surplus categories or prior exposure to auction processes.
- Flexibility to work varied hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, particularly during peak auction periods.
