Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and community-focused Parking Enforcement Officer to join our dedicated team in Bournemouth. This is an essential council role that plays a crucial part in managing traffic flow, ensuring road safety, and maintaining fair access to parking facilities across the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole area. No previous experience in parking enforcement is required, as full comprehensive training will be provided to equip you with all the necessary skills and knowledge. You will be supplied with a full uniform and all required equipment to carry out your duties effectively. Key Responsibilities
- Patrol assigned areas on foot and by vehicle to enforce parking regulations.
- Issue Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) accurately and fairly to vehicles in contravention of parking restrictions.
- Provide advice and information to the public regarding parking regulations, routes, and facilities.
- Inspect and report defective or missing signs, lines, and parking meters.
- Utilise handheld electronic devices for recording and processing parking infringements.
- Liaise effectively with members of the public, often in challenging situations, maintaining a calm and professional demeanor.
- Complete daily logs and reports, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
- Adhere to all council policies and procedures, health and safety guidelines, and relevant legislation.
Required Skills

- Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
- Physically fit and able to walk and stand for extended periods in all weather conditions.
- Ability to deal with challenging situations and difficult conversations in a professional manner.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills for accurate record-keeping.
- A strong commitment to public service and community safety.
Preferred Qualifications
- Full UK Driving License.
- Previous experience in a customer service or public-facing role.
- Knowledge of the local Bournemouth area and its road network.
