Job Description
We are seeking a highly meticulous and experienced Clinical Coder to join our Health Records and Clinical Coding team at Warrington Hospital. In this essential role, you will be responsible for accurately translating complex medical information from patient records into standardised national clinical codes (ICD-10 and OPCS-4). Your expertise will ensure the integrity and quality of clinical data, which is crucial for patient care, resource allocation, and national statistical reporting. This is a full-time, on-site position offering a rewarding career within a dynamic NHS environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Abstracting and accurately coding clinical information from patient records using ICD-10 and OPCS-4 classifications.
- Ensuring all coded data meets national standards, guidelines, and deadlines.
- Maintaining a high level of accuracy and data quality to support robust clinical governance and audit processes.
- Liaising effectively with clinical and non-clinical staff to clarify documentation and resolve coding queries.
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of coding practices and data quality within the Trust.
- Participating in regular audit activities and peer review to ensure coding consistency and accuracy.
- Keeping up-to-date with changes in coding classifications, national guidance, and healthcare policies.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Clinical Coder, with strong proficiency in ICD-10 and OPCS-4.
- Excellent understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient IT skills, including experience with electronic patient record systems.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Accredited Clinical Coder (ACC) qualification.
- Previous experience working within an NHS setting.
- Knowledge of clinical governance and audit processes.
