Job Description

Are you eager to launch your career in logistics and supply chain management? Canadian Tire Corporation is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Materials Handling & Logistics Intern to join our dynamic Distribution Center team in Saanich, British Columbia. This entry-level internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced environment, learning the intricacies of warehousing, inventory management, and materials handling operations. You will support our team in optimizing processes, ensuring efficient flow of goods, and contributing to the overall success of our supply chain. Full training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the receiving, storing, and dispatching of goods within the distribution center.
  • Learn and apply best practices for inventory management, including cycle counting and stock rotation.
  • Support materials handling operations using various equipment (e.g., pallet jacks, forklifts, after training and certification).
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and productivity.
  • Help maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
  • Collaborate with team members to resolve operational issues and ensure smooth workflow.
  • Gain exposure to warehouse management systems (WMS) and data entry tasks.
  • Prepare reports and documentation as required by supervisors.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a post-secondary program in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in logistics, warehousing, and operational efficiency.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new systems and processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 25 lbs and stand for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous volunteer or part-time work experience in a warehouse or retail environment (not required, but a plus).
  • Familiarity with inventory principles or supply chain concepts.
  • Enthusiasm for a career in the retail or logistics industry.
