Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Calligraphy & Letterpress Intern to join our dedicated team. This is a unique opportunity for an individual with no prior experience in letterpress or professional calligraphy to learn from skilled artisans in a supportive and creative environment. As an intern, you will gain hands-on experience in the entire letterpress printing process, from design preparation and plate making to ink mixing, press operation, and finishing. You will also have the chance to develop foundational calligraphy skills, contributing to bespoke projects. This role is perfect for someone eager to immerse themselves in the world of artisanal print and design, with a keen eye for detail and a desire to master traditional crafts.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the setup and operation of letterpress machines under supervision.
- Learn about paper handling, ink mixing, and color matching techniques.
- Support the preparation of design files for plate making.
- Help with finishing tasks, including cutting, scoring, and binding.
- Practice and develop fundamental calligraphy skills for client projects.
- Maintain a clean and organized studio workspace.
- Assist with packing and shipping finished orders.
- Observe and learn best practices in customer service and project management within a boutique studio.
Required Skills
- A strong passion for traditional crafts, design, and attention to detail.
- Eagerness to learn and a proactive attitude.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously.
- Good manual dexterity and patience.
- Basic computer literacy (familiarity with design software is a plus, but not required).
