Job Description

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic Marine Geochemistry Intern to join our Coastal Lab team in Belfast. This internship is designed for individuals eager to gain practical, hands-on experience in marine environmental science and geochemistry. You will work alongside experienced scientists, contributing to ongoing research projects focused on understanding geochemical processes in coastal waters. This entry-level position is perfect for students or recent graduates with a foundational interest in marine science, providing comprehensive training and mentorship in lab techniques, data analysis, and field sampling methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior researchers with sample collection in coastal environments, including water, sediment, and biological samples.
  • Perform routine laboratory analyses for geochemical parameters (e.g., nutrient concentrations, trace metals, pH, salinity) using established protocols.
  • Prepare chemical reagents and maintain laboratory equipment according to safety guidelines.
  • Accurately record and manage experimental data, ensuring data integrity and organization.
  • Participate in the calibration and maintenance of field and laboratory instrumentation.
  • Support data entry and preliminary analysis using statistical software.
  • Contribute to literature reviews and research summaries as requested.
  • Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.

  • Basic understanding of chemistry, environmental science, or oceanography principles.
