Job Description

CN Rail is seeking highly motivated individuals to join our team as Freight Train Conductors (Trainee). No prior experience in rail or transportation is required! We offer a comprehensive paid training academy that will equip you with all the essential skills and knowledge needed to become a certified Freight Train Conductor. This role involves travel, irregular hours, and a commitment to safety, ensuring the vital flow of goods across our network. Key Responsibilities
- Successfully complete CN Rail's paid conductor training academy, including classroom and field instruction.
- Adhere strictly to all railway operating rules, safety regulations, and procedures.
- Operate switches and couple/uncouple rail cars safely and efficiently.
- Conduct thorough inspections of trains and equipment to ensure operational readiness.
- Communicate effectively with locomotive engineers, train dispatchers, and other crew members.
- Monitor track conditions and signal indications, taking appropriate action as required.
- Perform various physical tasks including climbing, balancing, walking on uneven terrain, and lifting.
- Work irregular shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours, often away from home.
- Collaborate as part of a team to ensure on-time performance and safe delivery of freight.
Required Skills
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Ability to complete and pass all required training and certifications.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and depth perception.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- High degree of safety awareness and adherence to rules.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Willingness to work variable shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to travel and be away from home for extended periods.
- Physical capability to perform duties in all weather conditions, including standing, walking, climbing, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a physically demanding role or outdoor work.
- Mechanical aptitude or an understanding of basic mechanical principles.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
