Job Description

Join our dedicated team as a Family Court Support Assistant within the Ministry of the Attorney General. This vital on-site role provides essential administrative and operational support to the Family Court in Kingston, ensuring the efficient processing of cases and delivery of services to individuals and families during challenging times. You will play a crucial part in maintaining the integrity and accessibility of the justice system, working closely with judges, court staff, and legal professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive administrative support to Family Court judges, court staff, and legal professionals.
  • Manage court schedules, appointments, and meticulously maintain accurate and confidential case files.
  • Assist with the preparation, formatting, and distribution of court documents, orders, and correspondence.
  • Respond to inquiries from the public, lawyers, and other stakeholders regarding court procedures and case status with professionalism and clarity.
  • Operate court technology, including audio-visual equipment for in-person and virtual hearings.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information and ensure full compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, and legislation.
  • Liaise effectively with various government agencies, community partners, and service providers as required.

Required Skills

  • Proven administrative or clerical experience, preferably within a legal, government, or public service environment.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to quickly learn new software.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated discretion, sound judgment, and a strong understanding of confidentiality protocols.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in legal administration, paralegal studies, office administration, or a related field.
  • Experience with court-specific case management systems or similar database applications.
  • Knowledge of family law procedures, terminology, and court rules.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is considered a strong asset.
