Job Description
We are urgently seeking a Public Healthcare Laundry & Sterilization Aide to join our essential support services team at Trillium Health Partners in Mississauga. This full-time, immediate hire position is crucial for maintaining the highest standards of hygiene and safety within our healthcare facilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for the collection, sorting, washing, drying, folding, and distribution of linens, as well as the cleaning and sterilization of medical equipment and instruments. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, adherence to strict infection control protocols, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Full training will be provided to ensure you are confident and competent in all aspects of your duties, making this an excellent opportunity for individuals eager to contribute to public health and gain valuable experience in a vital healthcare support role.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect soiled linen and medical waste from various hospital departments.
- Sort, wash, dry, and fold all types of linen using industrial laundry equipment.
- Operate and maintain sterilization equipment (e.g., autoclaves, washer-disinfectors).
- Clean, inspect, assemble, and package medical instruments and equipment for sterilization.
- Monitor and document sterilization cycles and processes to ensure efficacy.
- Distribute clean linen and sterilized supplies to designated areas.
- Maintain accurate inventory records of linen and sterilized items.
- Adhere strictly to infection control policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Report equipment malfunctions or supply shortages to supervisors.
- Ensure a clean and organized work environment in the laundry and sterilization areas.
Required Skills
- Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to cleanliness and hygiene.
- Physical ability to lift, push, and pull carts, and stand for extended periods.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills for reading labels and logging information.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Reliability and punctuality are essential.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a laundry, cleaning, or healthcare support role.
- Familiarity with infection control practices or sterile processing procedures.
- Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).
