Job Description

We are seeking a talented and experienced Naval Architect to join our dynamic team in Exeter. As a Naval Architect, you will play a crucial role in the design, analysis, and modification of a diverse range of naval and commercial vessels. You will be involved in projects from concept to completion, ensuring the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and performance. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform naval architectural calculations including hydrostatics, stability, resistance, propulsion, and structural analysis.
  • Develop and review engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including marine engineers, project managers, and clients.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant international maritime regulations, classification society rules, and client requirements.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical discussions, and client meetings.
  • Utilize specialist software for design and analysis tasks.
  • Support the preparation of bids and proposals with technical input.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 36 months of professional experience in naval architecture.
  • Proficiency in naval architecture design and analysis software (e.g., AVEVA Marine, Rhino, AutoCAD, Maxsurf, NAPA).
  • Strong understanding of ship design principles, stability, hydrodynamics, and structural mechanics.
  • Familiarity with international maritime regulations (e.g., IMO, SOLAS) and classification society rules (e.g., Lloyd's Register, DNV-GL).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in Naval Architecture or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional accreditation.
  • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) software.
  • Previous experience working on defence or complex commercial vessel projects.
  • Knowledge of shipbuilding processes and vessel construction.
