Job Description
Bristol Farms is seeking a dedicated and energetic Seafood Prep / Fishmonger Assistant to join our team in Glendale, CA. This full-time position requires an individual who thrives in an early morning environment, ready to ensure our seafood counter is stocked, fresh, and perfectly prepared for our discerning customers. You will play a crucial role in maintaining the highest standards of quality and cleanliness, assisting our experienced fishmongers, and providing exceptional service. Uniforms are provided to ensure a professional appearance.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Fishmonger with daily seafood preparation, including scaling, gutting, filleting, and portioning.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the seafood counter, prep areas, and storage facilities according to health and safety standards.
- Receive and inspect incoming seafood deliveries for quality and freshness.
- Properly store and rotate seafood products to minimize waste and ensure optimal freshness.
- Engage with customers, answer questions about seafood products, cooking methods, and provide recommendations.
- Operate and clean specialized equipment safely and efficiently.
- Contribute to inventory management and ensure accurate product labeling.
- Adhere to all food safety and sanitation guidelines.
Required Skills
- Ability to work early morning shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation principles.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods, lift heavy items (up to 50 lbs), and work in a refrigerated environment.
- Positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a retail food environment, particularly a seafood department or butcher shop.
- Basic knife skills.
- Knowledge of different types of fish and seafood.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
