Job Description
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Academic Department Head to lead our international sponsorship programs. This pivotal role involves overseeing the academic quality, operational efficiency, and strategic growth of departments catering to our international sponsored students. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with international student sponsorship regulations, driving student success, and fostering strong relationships with sponsoring bodies and partner institutions. This role demands a visionary leader with a deep understanding of international education, academic management, and student welfare.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and academic oversight for departments serving international sponsored students, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
- Manage the operational aspects of international sponsorship programs, including admissions, enrolment, progress monitoring, and reporting.
- Ensure strict compliance with UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) regulations and other relevant international sponsorship guidelines.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with international sponsoring bodies, educational agents, and partner institutions.
- Lead, mentor, and appraise a team of academic and administrative staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
- Oversee curriculum development and review to meet the specific needs and academic progression pathways of international sponsored students.
- Manage departmental budgets effectively, ensuring financial sustainability and resource optimisation.
- Contribute to the college's internationalisation strategy and initiatives.
- Act as a Designated Safeguarding Lead or equivalent, ensuring the welfare and safety of all international students.
Required Skills
- Proven leadership experience within an educational or academic setting.
- Demonstrable knowledge of international student sponsorship regulations (e.g., UKVI compliance).
- Strong understanding of academic quality assurance and enhancement processes.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
- Financial management and budgeting proficiency.
- Ability to build and maintain effective internal and external partnerships.
- Master's degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD or Doctorate in Education or a related discipline.
- Experience working with a diverse international student body.
- Fluency in additional languages relevant to key international markets.
- Experience in curriculum design for international students.
- Project management certification or experience.
