Job Description

Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in a structured training programme to develop expertise in all areas of environmental health.
- Shadow experienced Environmental Health Inspectors on site visits and investigations, learning best practices.
- Assist with routine inspections of premises, including food businesses, workplaces, and residential properties, under supervision.
- Learn to investigate complaints relating to public health, environmental nuisance, and housing conditions.
- Help prepare reports, notices, and legal documents as part of enforcement actions.
- Develop an understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Engage with businesses and residents, providing advice and guidance on environmental health matters.
- Attend workshops, seminars, and professional development courses as required.
Required Skills
- A strong interest in public health, environmental protection, and local government.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a methodical approach to tasks.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- A commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
Preferred Qualifications
- A degree (or working towards one) in Environmental Health, a science-related discipline, or equivalent qualification.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use, or ability to travel across the borough.
- Understanding of relevant UK environmental health legislation (e.g., Food Safety Act, Health and Safety at Work Act).
- Previous experience in a customer-facing role.
