Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Social Worker to join our dedicated Adult Social Care team in Gateshead. In this pivotal role, you will manage complex caseloads, provide expert guidance to colleagues, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our services. You will be instrumental in safeguarding vulnerable adults, promoting their well-being, and ensuring person-centred outcomes. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a complex and diverse caseload of adults with care and support needs, including safeguarding referrals.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments, develop care plans, and review outcomes in line with statutory requirements.
  • Provide professional supervision, mentoring, and support to less experienced social workers and students.
  • Lead on multi-agency working, fostering effective partnerships with health, housing, and other community services.
  • Participate in duty rotas, managing urgent and crisis situations effectively.
  • Contribute to service development, policy review, and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in accordance with data protection and organisational policies.
  • Represent the council in various professional forums and meetings.

Required Skills

  • Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration.
  • Proven experience managing complex adult social care caseloads.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and Safeguarding Adults procedures.
  • Excellent assessment, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging effectively with service users, families, and professionals.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-qualifying award in Social Work (e.g., Practice Educator Award, Best Interests Assessor qualification).
  • Experience in supervisory or mentoring roles within a social care setting.
  • Knowledge of local community resources and services in Tyne and Wear.
