Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Petroleum Engineering Intern to join our Upstream Operations team in Cleveland, OH. This internship provides an invaluable opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in the oil and gas industry, working alongside experienced engineers on various upstream projects. You will contribute to real-world challenges, develop critical analytical skills, and learn about the full lifecycle of upstream operations from reservoir characterization to production optimization, all within a supportive and collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in collecting, organizing, and analyzing geological, geophysical, and reservoir data.
  • Support the development, modification, and maintenance of reservoir models and simulations.
  • Participate in the evaluation of drilling and production operations data, identifying trends and potential areas for improvement.
  • Help prepare comprehensive technical reports, presentations, and detailed documentation for ongoing projects.
  • Contribute to projects focused on optimizing well performance, enhanced oil recovery (EOR) strategies, and field development plans.
  • Adhere to all company safety protocols, environmental regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Conduct literature reviews and research on emerging petroleum engineering technologies, methodologies, and industry trends.
  • Perform basic engineering calculations and data reconciliation under supervision.

Required Skills

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Petroleum Engineering or a closely related field (e.g., Chemical Engineering, Geological Engineering).
  • Strong academic record, demonstrating proficiency in core engineering principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for data analysis and reporting.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for technical discussions and documentation.
  • Ability to work both independently on assigned tasks and collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated interest and foundational knowledge in the upstream oil and gas sector.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed coursework in reservoir engineering, production engineering, petrophysics, or drilling engineering.
  • Familiarity with petroleum engineering software (e.g., Petrel, Eclipse, IPM, MATLAB, Python for data analysis) is a significant plus.
  • Previous participation in academic projects, research, or extracurricular activities related to upstream operations.
  • Active involvement in professional engineering societies such as the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) or American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG).
  • Basic understanding of geological principles relevant to oil and gas exploration and production.
