Job Description
Hewitt Equipment Inc. is seeking dedicated and skilled Heavy Duty Mechanic (Diesel) professionals to join our dynamic team in Sherbrooke, Quebec. This is an exceptional opportunity for experienced mechanics looking to advance their careers in a leading heavy equipment dealership. As a Heavy Duty Mechanic, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of Caterpillar heavy equipment, ensuring optimal performance and safety for our clients. This is a full-time, on-site position.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on diesel engines and heavy equipment systems (hydraulic, electrical, transmission).
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic malfunctions using specialized diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Disassemble and reassemble engines, transmissions, and other components.
- Conduct complex overhauls and rebuilds of heavy-duty equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and service manuals.
- Complete detailed service reports and maintain accurate records of repairs.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior mechanics when required.
- Perform field service and emergency repairs as needed.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as a Heavy Duty Mechanic specializing in diesel engines.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities for mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Proficiency with diagnostic software and tools relevant to heavy equipment (e.g., CAT ET).
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Excellent understanding of heavy equipment components and systems.
- Strong commitment to safety practices and procedures.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical dexterity and stamina to perform manual tasks in various environmental conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic certification or equivalent recognized credential.
- Experience with Caterpillar equipment and engines.
- Forklift operator certification.
- Welding and fabrication skills.
- Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.
