Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Zookeeper / Exotic Animal Specialist to join our vibrant team. This role is crucial for maintaining the health, welfare, and environmental enrichment of a diverse collection of exotic animals. You will be responsible for daily animal care, habitat maintenance, record-keeping, and contributing to visitor engagement. Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily care, feeding, and watering for a variety of exotic animals according to established dietary and behavioral plans.
- Monitor animal health and behavior, reporting any anomalies or concerns to veterinary staff immediately.
- Maintain clean, safe, and stimulating enclosures and habitats, including routine cleaning, disinfection, and environmental enrichment.
- Assist with animal training, veterinary procedures, and relocation activities as required.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of animal health, diet, behavior, and habitat conditions.
- Engage with the public through educational talks and interactive sessions, sharing knowledge and promoting conservation.
- Participate in the development and implementation of new enrichment programs.
- Ensure compliance with all animal welfare regulations, health and safety policies, and park procedures.
- Work collaboratively with other zookeepers, veterinarians, and park staff.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of proven experience in exotic animal husbandry, preferably in a zoological or wildlife park setting.
- Strong knowledge of animal behavior, nutrition, and environmental enrichment for a range of exotic species.
- Ability to observe animals closely and identify subtle changes in health or behavior.
- Excellent record-keeping and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in animal restraint techniques and safe handling procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for team collaboration and public engagement.
- Physical fitness and ability to perform strenuous tasks, lift heavy objects, and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant Bachelor's degree or diploma in Zoology, Animal Science, Wildlife Management, or a related field.
- Experience with venomous reptiles or dangerous carnivores.
- First Aid certification.
- Experience in educational presentations or public speaking.
