Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Phlebotomist to join our dynamic laboratory team at Carle Health in Champaign, IL. This full-time, on-site position offers an exciting opportunity for a skilled professional to contribute to patient care through precise and efficient blood collection. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in our diagnostic process, ensuring the highest standards of safety and patient comfort. Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures on patients of all ages with proficiency and minimal discomfort.
- Accurately identify patients and label specimens according to established protocols.
- Prepare specimens for laboratory testing and ensure proper handling and transport.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked phlebotomy area.
- Adhere to all safety regulations, including universal precautions and infection control procedures.
- Provide excellent customer service, addressing patient inquiries and concerns professionally.
- Document all collection procedures and maintain accurate patient records.
- Assist with training new phlebotomy staff as needed.
- Handle complex or difficult venipuncture cases with confidence and expertise.
- Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) from ASCP or equivalent recognized credential
- Minimum of 2 years of professional phlebotomy experience in a clinical setting
- Proficiency in venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques for diverse patient populations (infants, children, adults, geriatrics)
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory specimen requirements
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Basic computer proficiency for data entry and record keeping
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree in a related scientific field
- Experience with various laboratory information systems (LIS)
- Experience in an acute care or high-volume outpatient setting
- Bilingual skills (e.g., Spanish, Arabic) are a plus
