Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Materials Handling & Logistics Intern to join our Distribution Center team in Sugar Land, TX. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the fast-paced world of supply chain management and logistics within a large retail environment. You will work closely with experienced professionals, learning the intricacies of inventory management, warehouse operations, and the flow of goods from our suppliers to our stores. This role is designed for individuals with little to no prior experience, providing comprehensive training and mentorship to develop foundational skills in materials handling, logistics, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the receiving, storing, and distribution of merchandise within the distribution center.
- Learn and apply best practices for inventory management, including cycle counting and stock rotation.
- Observe and support the optimization of warehouse layout and material flow processes.
- Participate in data collection and analysis to identify areas for operational improvement.
- Help maintain a safe and organized work environment in compliance with company policies and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with various teams to understand interdependencies across the supply chain.
- Document processes and contribute to reports on distribution center performance.
- Complete assigned projects designed to enhance learning and contribute to operational goals.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field (or recent graduate).
- Strong interest in logistics, supply chain, and warehouse operations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous coursework or projects related to logistics or operations management.
- Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS) concepts.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, physical distribution center environment.
