Job Description
Join the City of Harrisonburg as a Traffic Warden / Control Officer. This vital role involves independently patrolling designated areas, enforcing parking regulations, and assisting with traffic management to ensure the safe and orderly flow of pedestrian and vehicular traffic. You will play a key role in maintaining public safety and promoting compliance with local ordinances. Key Responsibilities
- Patrol assigned zones on foot or by vehicle to monitor parking compliance.
- Issue citations for parking violations such as expired meters, illegal parking, and other infractions.
- Respond to public inquiries and provide information regarding parking regulations and local directions.
- Assist in directing traffic during special events, emergencies, or peak hours as needed.
- Document and maintain accurate records of issued citations, vehicle information, and daily activities.
- Report observed hazards, damaged property, or suspicious activities to appropriate departments.
- Operate and maintain handheld devices and other equipment used for enforcement.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with the public and other city personnel.
Required Skills
- Ability to read, understand, and enforce city ordinances and regulations.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods in various weather conditions.
- Basic computer proficiency for data entry and report writing.
- Problem-solving skills and ability to exercise sound judgment independently.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in customer service or public interaction roles.
- Familiarity with Harrisonburg city streets and parking zones.
- Valid Virginia Driver's License.
- Basic First Aid certification.
