Founded in 1824, the RNLI provides a 24-hour search and rescue service and a seasonal lifeguard service. Job Description

Join the heroic volunteer team at the RNLI in Great Yarmouth and become a vital part of our mission to save lives at sea. As a volunteer Lifeboat Crew member, you will respond to emergency call-outs, assist in search and rescue operations, and contribute to the maintenance and readiness of our lifeboats. No prior experience is required as full, comprehensive training will be provided to ensure you are fully equipped and confident in all aspects of the role. This is a challenging yet incredibly rewarding role for individuals dedicated to community service and maritime safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to emergency call-outs, day or night, in all weather conditions.
  • Participate in search and rescue operations, providing assistance to vessels and individuals in distress.
  • Undergo continuous training and development to maintain proficiency in all crew duties, including boat handling, navigation, first aid, and communications.
  • Assist with the cleaning, maintenance, and upkeep of the lifeboat, station, and equipment to ensure operational readiness.
  • Support fundraising activities and public engagement events to promote the RNLI's mission within the local community.
  • Adhere to all RNLI safety protocols and operational procedures.

Required Skills

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in high-pressure situations.
  • Good level of physical fitness and health (will be assessed).
  • Reliability, dedication, and a strong sense of commitment.
  • A desire to learn and develop new skills.
  • Residency within a reasonable distance of Great Yarmouth Lifeboat Station to ensure quick response times.
  • Strong communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with boating or maritime activities (not essential, but beneficial).
  • Knowledge of local waters around Great Yarmouth.
  • First Aid certification.
