Job Description
Join the dynamic team at Swissport as an Airport Baggage Handler at Southampton Airport! This entry-level position is perfect for individuals who are energetic, reliable, and looking for a vital role in the aviation industry. You will be responsible for the safe and efficient handling of passenger luggage and cargo, ensuring a smooth travel experience for thousands of passengers daily. Full training will be provided to equip you with all the necessary skills and safety knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
- Load and unload baggage from aircraft holds and baggage carts.
- Transport baggage to and from aircraft, ensuring timely delivery.
- Operate baggage handling equipment safely, including tugs and belt loaders (after training).
- Sort and tag baggage according to destination.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and company procedures.
- Communicate effectively with team members and airline staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support ground operations.
Required Skills
- Ability to lift heavy items repeatedly (up to 23kg/50lbs).
- Physical fitness and stamina for demanding work in various weather conditions.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely.
- Strong commitment to safety and security protocols.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment.
- Must hold a valid UK driving license (or provisional with ability to obtain full).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a physically demanding role or outdoor work.
- Familiarity with airport operations or aviation safety procedures (not essential, training provided).
- Flexibility to work shifts, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and public holidays.
