Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Fine Art Conservator / Restorer to join our expert team. This full-time, on-site role requires a passionate individual committed to the ethical treatment and preservation of a diverse range of artworks. The successful candidate will be responsible for examining, documenting, treating, and restoring valuable art pieces, adhering strictly to conservation principles and best practices. We are open to supporting candidates requiring a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) to work in the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough condition assessments and examinations of fine art objects, including paintings, frames, and sculptures.
  • Develop and implement appropriate conservation and restoration treatment plans, utilising both traditional and modern techniques.
  • Perform intricate cleaning, stabilisation, repair, and aesthetic reintegration (inpainting/retouching) on various artworks.
  • Prepare detailed written and photographic documentation for all examination and treatment procedures.
  • Monitor environmental conditions and provide advice on preventative conservation measures.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, clients, and other specialists to ensure optimal care for collections.
  • Stay current with advancements in conservation science, materials, and methodologies.
  • Adhere to professional ethical guidelines and safety standards in all work.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Fine Art Conservator or Restorer, particularly with paintings or sculptures.
  • In-depth knowledge of art history, artists' materials, and conservation chemistry.
  • Exceptional manual dexterity, precision, and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in various conservation techniques and materials.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for documentation and client interaction.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Conservation, Fine Art Restoration, or a related field from a recognised institution.
  • Specialisation in specific types of artworks (e.g., Old Master paintings, contemporary art, gilded objects).
  • A strong portfolio showcasing previous conservation and restoration projects.
  • Membership in a professional conservation body (e.g., ICON, AIC).
  • Experience with advanced scientific analytical techniques (e.g., IR, UV, X-ray).
