Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Financial Accountant to join our dynamic team in Sunderland. This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the financial integrity and reporting processes of a leading global professional services firm. The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of financial accounting tasks, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery of financial information. This is a full-time, on-site position requiring a strong understanding of accounting principles and the ability to work effectively within a structured financial environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with relevant accounting standards (e.g., IFRS, UK GAAP).
• Manage general ledger accounts, including journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end/year-end close processes.
• Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts, and monitor financial performance against these targets.
• Ensure compliance with all internal financial policies and external regulatory requirements.
• Support external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
• Analyze financial data and provide insights to senior management.
• Collaborate with various departments to gather financial information and resolve discrepancies.
• Process accounts payable and accounts receivable activities.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns and other statutory filings.

Required Skills

• Proven experience as a Financial Accountant or in a similar role.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting standards (IFRS/UK GAAP).
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Xero) and advanced Excel skills.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
• Experience working within a large corporate environment or professional services firm.
• Familiarity with financial planning and analysis (FP&A) concepts.
• Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
