Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Sports Agency & Contract Law Intern to join our dynamic team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the exciting intersection of sports management and contract law, with a focus on athlete representation. The successful candidate will support our legal professionals in drafting, reviewing, and analyzing athlete contracts, conducting legal research related to sports regulations, and assisting with the day-to-day operations of athlete representation. This role is ideal for a law student with a strong passion for sports and a desire to build a career in this specialized legal field. You will learn directly from experienced lawyers and agents, contributing to real-world projects that impact the careers of professional athletes.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the research, drafting, and review of various sports-related contracts, including player contracts, endorsement deals, and sponsorship agreements.
- Conduct legal research on sports law issues, intellectual property rights, labor laws applicable to athletes, and regulatory compliance.
- Support in the preparation of legal documents, memos, and presentations related to athlete representation.
- Help manage and organize confidential client files and documentation.
- Participate in client meetings and internal strategy sessions, taking notes and contributing to discussions.
- Monitor sports industry trends, legal developments, and league policies relevant to athlete representation.
- Provide administrative support to the legal and athlete representation teams as needed.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in an accredited Law program (JD/LLB or equivalent).
- Excellent legal research and writing skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated interest in sports, sports law, or athlete representation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of 1L or 2L year of law school.
- Fluency in both English and French (written and spoken) due to the regional client base in Quebec.
- Prior experience or coursework in contract law, intellectual property, or sports law.
- Understanding of major sports league collective bargaining agreements (e.g., NHL, NBA, MLB, MLS).
