Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Commercial Baker / Pastry Chef to join our dynamic team in South Shields. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced professional to contribute to the creation of high-quality, commercially produced baked goods and pastries. You will play a crucial role in maintaining Greggs’ reputation for excellence, ensuring every product meets our rigorous standards for taste, appearance, and consistency. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and bake a wide variety of breads, pastries, cakes, and other baked goods according to established recipes and production schedules.
- Operate and maintain commercial baking equipment, including ovens, mixers, and proofers.
- Monitor product quality at all stages of production, from mixing to cooling and finishing.
- Adhere strictly to food safety, hygiene, and health and safety regulations.
- Manage inventory of ingredients, ensuring proper rotation and minimizing waste.
- Decorate and finish pastries and cakes to an exceptional standard.
- Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure smooth workflow and timely product delivery.
- Maintain a clean and organised work environment.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Commercial Baker or Pastry Chef in a high-volume production environment.
- Strong knowledge of baking techniques, ingredients, and commercial bakery operations.
- Excellent understanding of food safety and hygiene standards (HACCP preferred).
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
- Attention to detail and a passion for producing high-quality baked goods.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Physical stamina to stand for long periods and lift heavy ingredients.
Preferred Qualifications
- Culinary diploma or professional baking qualification.
- Experience with large-scale commercial baking equipment.
- Proficiency in advanced pastry decoration techniques.
- Previous experience working in a similar high-volume retail bakery setting.
