Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Forensic Scientist / Toxicologist to join our dynamic team in Leyton, London. This is an exceptional opportunity for professionals with expertise in forensic toxicology to contribute to critical investigations and legal processes. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing biological samples for the presence of drugs, poisons, and other toxic substances, interpreting results, and providing expert witness testimony. Key Responsibilities
- Conducting detailed chemical and toxicological analyses of biological and non-biological samples using various analytical techniques (e.g., GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, immunoassay).
- Interpreting analytical results and preparing comprehensive scientific reports suitable for legal proceedings.
- Maintaining accurate and thorough records of all analytical work, observations, and findings.
- Calibrating and performing routine maintenance on laboratory equipment to ensure optimal performance and data quality.
- Adhering strictly to quality assurance protocols, health and safety regulations, and ethical guidelines.
- Providing expert witness testimony in court, clearly and concisely explaining complex scientific findings to legal professionals.
- Participating in method development and validation studies as required.
- Collaborating effectively with colleagues, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders.
Required Skills
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Forensic Science, Chemistry, Toxicology, or a closely related scientific field.
- Proven practical laboratory experience, ideally within a forensic or analytical chemistry setting.
- Familiarity with various analytical techniques, particularly GC-MS and LC-MS/MS.
- Strong understanding of toxicology principles and drug metabolism.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
- Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Proficiency in written and verbal communication for report writing and court testimony.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- A PhD in a relevant scientific discipline.
- Experience as an expert witness in court.
- Knowledge of UK forensic quality standards (e.g., ISO 17025).
- Prior experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
- Professional membership in a relevant scientific body (e.g., The Forensic Science Society).
