Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and skilled Bespoke Tailor / Alterations Assistant to join our team in Merthyr Tydfil. This role is ideal for someone with foundational sewing skills and a passion for garment craftsmanship and customer service. You will be instrumental in ensuring our garments fit perfectly, contributing to the satisfaction of our valued customers. While prior professional tailoring experience is a bonus, we are keen to hear from individuals with proven sewing abilities who are eager to learn and develop within a professional retail environment. Full training on specific Moss Bros. alteration techniques and standards will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of garment alterations, including hems, waist adjustments, sleeve lengths, and minor repairs.
- Take accurate measurements of customers for alterations and bespoke fitting services.
- Pin and mark garments precisely according to customer requirements and tailoring standards.
- Operate industrial sewing machines and hand-sew where necessary to achieve high-quality finishes.
- Maintain a clean and organised alterations workspace.
- Assist customers with fittings, offering advice and ensuring their complete satisfaction.
- Manage alteration schedules and ensure timely completion of work.
- Contribute to maintaining a positive and collaborative team environment.
Required Skills
- Proficient in basic hand sewing techniques.
- Ability to operate a sewing machine (domestic or industrial).
- Understanding of garment construction and fabric types.
- Attention to detail and a high level of precision.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic numeracy for measurements and calculations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a retail environment.
- Formal qualification in fashion design, textiles, or tailoring.
