Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Volunteer Coordinator to join our Community Support team. This pivotal role involves the recruitment, training, supervision, and recognition of volunteers who are vital to the success of our community programs and initiatives. You will be instrumental in building a robust volunteer network that strengthens community engagement and provides essential support across various council services.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategies for volunteer recruitment and retention, ensuring a diverse and skilled volunteer base.
- Conduct thorough screening, onboarding, and training for all new volunteers, adhering to council policies and safety standards.
- Match volunteers with appropriate roles based on their skills, interests, and availability, and program needs.
- Provide ongoing support, supervision, and recognition to volunteers, fostering a positive and engaging volunteer experience.
- Maintain accurate volunteer records, including hours, activities, training, and contact information.
- Coordinate volunteer schedules and assignments for various community events and ongoing programs.
- Act as the primary point of contact for volunteers, addressing inquiries, concerns, and providing necessary resources.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external community groups to identify volunteer needs and opportunities.
- Assist in the evaluation of volunteer programs and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures pertaining to volunteer management.
Required Skills
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities, with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite, database management).
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, and the ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to motivate, inspire, and manage a team of volunteers.
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to handle challenging situations with tact.
- A valid Australian C-Class Driver's Licence.
Preferred Qualifications
- A tertiary qualification in Community Development, Social Work, Human Resources, or a related field.
- Previous experience in volunteer coordination or management within a community or not-for-profit setting.
- Knowledge of community services and local networks within the Port Hedland region.
