Job Description
The Alice Springs Town Council is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Turf Maintenance Hand to join our dynamic team. This ongoing full-time position plays a crucial role in maintaining the pristine condition of our golf courses, public parks, and recreational grounds across Alice Springs. If you have a passion for outdoor work, enjoy physical tasks, and are committed to contributing to the community’s green spaces, we encourage you to apply. Full training will be provided, but prior experience in a similar role or with grounds maintenance equipment will be highly regarded.
Key Responsibilities
- Mow, trim, and edge turf areas using a variety of equipment (ride-on mowers, push mowers, string trimmers).
- Assist with the preparation and maintenance of golf course greens, fairways, and bunkers.
- Undertake general garden maintenance including weeding, mulching, pruning, and planting.
- Operate and maintain irrigation systems.
- Identify and report turf diseases, pests, and other issues.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance on equipment and facilities.
- Ensure compliance with all WHS policies and procedures.
- Contribute to a safe and positive team environment.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physical tasks outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Basic understanding of grounds maintenance principles.
- Ability to operate basic landscaping tools and equipment safely.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current Australian C Class Driver's License.
- Experience operating turf maintenance machinery (e.g., ride-on mowers, tractors).
- Basic knowledge of plant health and pest identification.
- First Aid certificate.
- Chemical User Accreditation (ACUP).
