Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Endoscopy Nurse to join our highly skilled team at Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle. As an Endoscopy Nurse, you will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive care to patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, ensuring their comfort, safety, and well-being throughout their journey. Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert nursing care to patients before, during, and after endoscopic procedures.
- Assist endoscopists with a variety of procedures, including gastroscopy, colonoscopy, and bronchoscopy.
- Monitor patient vital signs and provide sedation under supervision, as appropriate.
- Ensure the safe use, maintenance, and decontamination of endoscopy equipment.
- Accurately document all patient care activities and observations in electronic records.
- Educate patients and their families about procedures, post-procedure care, and health promotion.
- Act as a patient advocate, ensuring dignity, respect, and confidentiality are maintained at all times.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the endoscopy service and participate in audit activities.
Required Skills
- Valid NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) registration or eligibility to obtain one.
- Minimum of 2 years post-registration experience, ideally within a surgical, medical, or acute care setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Commitment to continuous professional development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in an endoscopy unit.
- Evidence of post-registration training relevant to endoscopy.
- Immediate Life Support (ILS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations and international healthcare systems.
