Job Description

Royal Mail is offering an exceptional Trainee Postal Fleet Mechanic Apprenticeship Opportunity. This programme is designed for individuals with little to no prior experience in mechanics, providing comprehensive, hands-on training and theoretical knowledge to become a skilled fleet mechanic. You will learn to diagnose, repair, and maintain a diverse range of vehicles, ensuring the smooth operation of our vital postal service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate actively in all aspects of the apprenticeship training programme, both practical and theoretical.
  • Assist qualified mechanics with routine maintenance and repairs on Royal Mail's diverse fleet of vehicles.
  • Learn to perform vehicle inspections, identify faults, and diagnose mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Undertake basic servicing tasks, including oil changes, tyre checks, and fluid top-ups.
  • Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and parts used.
  • Contribute to maintaining a clean and organised workshop environment.
  • Develop practical skills in engine diagnostics, braking systems, transmission, and suspension.

Required Skills

  • No prior experience in mechanics is required; full training will be provided.
  • A strong eagerness to learn and develop new technical skills.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude or a keen interest in how things work.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English at grade 4 (C) or above.
